InfiniBadger Press Vignette Scenario VS1
The Caves of Ortok
For 4-6 Adventurers of Levels 3-5
OSRIC Edition
18 pages (1 cover, 1 inside cover, 9 scenario, 2 handouts, 4 maps, 1 pregens, 1 OGL)

Centuries ago, the great wizard Ortok broke apart his treasure vault and secreted his collection in multiple hidden caches throughout the world. Some of these caches have already been found, but many more remain undiscovered. Rumors suggest that one such cache may be found in some caves nearby. However, that is not all that the caves hold!

The Caves of Ortok is one of a range of prepackaged modules that are designed to be dropped into play during existing campaigns or adventures, or even to just be used on their own, by discerning Gamesmasters everywhere.

This version is the OSRIC Edition of the product. Also available are editions for Swords & Wizardry and Labyrinth Lord. The conversion work has already been done for you to save you time and so that you can easily use the product.

The Labyrinth Lord Edition can be found at:

I have one issue/request. Is it possible to get the dungeon maps without so much black space? I mean seriously to print out these maps is going to kill my ink. Perhaps offer layers where I can turn on/off the background of the dungeon maps. Please offer an inksaver version of your work. Map A is PERFECT for home printing.

Rachael,

Thank you for the feedback. We're currently looking at revising a number of products, and your feedback is being taken into consideration.

Map A for this product was designed to be shared at the table (and printed out) but the original expectations for GMs who choose to buy the PDF version was that most would be using the PDF at the table. The other maps follow traditional approaches to map presentation for underground/hidden areas.

You guys put a lot of effort into this, but one minor quibble - your sample characters clearly aren't OSRIC - almost none of them meet the ability score requirements for the classes they are members of. OSRIC is based on 1e, and that never used that 3d6 stuff (which was seemingly used for the characters, given how low they are), it's geared for 4d6 drop one in terms of the ability score bonuses, so using 3d6 changes things.

Jeremy,

Thanks for the feedback!

According to OSRIC Page 1 “The Game Master (“GM”) will decide how you should generate these scores”, which mirrors the AD&D 1e Players Handbook. There are 4 different ways to generate statistics listed in the AD&D 1e Dungeon Master Handbook. As 3d6 was the method used to generate the statistics for the other pregens in the other versions of the product, it was felt that doing the same for the OSRIC version was only fair. Yes, the rolls are low for some, but that’s what happens sometimes. These pregens are meant to be used for quickly or convention use.

Thanks for pointing out some errors in the pregens. We did find some issues with the Illusionist, Paladin, and Ranger. Those have been corrected now and the product has been updated with corrected numbers. These fell through the cracks at the early stages of the product development and have been there since. It happens sometimes.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
