Shadow City

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The year is 2065, the place was known as Hong Kong, but today, incredibly expanded and mutated, it is Shadow City, a free port, one of the biggest conurbations of the near future and the main access to the Lunar Colonies, thanks to the Space Elevator. The heroes are Nightjacks, highly trained specialists living on the razor’s edge in a merciless world dominated by corporations. Will you survive the night?

And as other Adventurers! settings, Shadow City include:

A player guide (with a description of the world, new Skills, gear and much more)
A game master guide (with a mini-gazetteer, specific magic and monster rules)
A full-fledged scenario
6 Pre-generated heroes
20+ new monsters on Monster Cards (so you can easily consult them during the game)

Ok after a deep read the Gear section is still my biggest gripe but it isn't a tragedy. I was just really hoping for a few more things like rules for Assault Rifles, SMGs, Different Ammo, etc. But still the overall setting is fine, Shadow City isnt a failure but as a resource for more Modern/Sci-Fi rules for the core game it is lacking.

Netrunning and Cyberdecking also seem great. I like it. The Drone Control and Rigging however....not so much. It is a little too vague especially with the rules for Remote Operation being left at -shrug- some stuff has it some doesnt without a Cost even being suggested. I also still feel the Implant Rules are still very odd and not quite fully fleshed out but I enjoy the Equilibrium system and how Cyber-Psychosis is handled.

Is there going to be a version that has original two page format? A repeat question I know but it bears repeating. I really, really liked that format. It seems others do as well. Are you going to make a new character sheet to include Equilibrium? I noticed that the pre-gens don't have an Equilibrium score on their abbreviated sheets? Under Android the Android has a pistol but no Weaponcraft (firearms) skill; he has Weaponcraft (blades) but no blades in gear.

Hi Dillard, yes, Android should have Weaponcraft (firearms).

So when is this going to be put into a format like the other Adventurers! Products? I really prefer the core concept of 2 pages or so. It's also way more handy when the Creature cards are separated. As a slight nit pick it seems the product is just a little sloppy and less fleshed out than the other settings. Hope this gets a 2.0 revision to clear up/expand on things like Implants etc.

The Gear list is also really horrible. Sorry but a big part of the Shadow-Run experience was the different fiddly bits to equip your character.

I mean no prices or rules for basic things like Fire-Arms but NPCs are equipped with Pistols sometimes. Also maybe I just can't find it but there are no rules I can see for what Burst does.

Hi, I am sorry you disliked the Gear part.
The approach of Adventurers is trimming the fat at maximum. Basic firearms are found in core rules, you use them. Adventurers has (by design) little granularity so we don't make custom gear or rules, when there are the basic ones.
About the implants rules you can design almost any type of cybernetical modification you want with them, using the same mechanics, but this requires some extra effort from you.

Sure I love the stripped down take of the game, but it doesnt even give good ideas or building blocks in my opinion. Also, you need to be VERY specific that this requires the paid version of the Core Rules. The Free Version is in my opinion in the superior format but lacks a few things like Scale, Guns, etc.

I really like the core concept of the game and dont mind too much having to buy it, but honestly Shadow City should have been compatible 100% with the free rules.

....Now I feel stupid and a little frustrated. Shadow City is in fact compatible with 100% free rules. I just had to go to the KS Edition page.

Not only is the free edition in a superior format but, well, free! I don't feel ripped off because I love the product but frustrated.

Anyway for anyone wanting to buy Shadow City please use this:

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
