Savage Kingdoms: Reforged core rulebook
by Eric S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/07/2018 09:57:51

This game should be on shelves nation wide. This is where bored D&D players should turn. You may think I am joking. Any players that get bored with simple number crunching game mechaincs of the majority of RP games will drift to this game. You can be WHATEVER you want and flesh out just who you are as a character, not just a numbers heavy character class. Great back story on races and zones, talents and skills, etc... This is for RPers who like to RP and not just gamers who aim to win. I admit that the first time you create a character it appears a little daunting but once you realize the freedom you have to create just the person you want to be it takes on a whole new life and you can't get enough. Just give yourself a few hours your first character build. Dont expect to create a new flesh and blood individual in a few minutes. Then enjoy the ride.

Savage Kingdoms: Reforged core rulebook

If you enjoyed the first edition, you will enjoy this as well. Some game mechanics have been tweaked to allow for more intuitive play, but aside from that, Reforged includes an expanded Bestiary as well as more in depth cultural detailing, both for the western continent of Astagonia and the Savage East. An amazing amount of research went into the design of every race, culture, and creature. The only real complaint is the game's relative obscurity which can make it difficult to justify a hardback purchase. But for only 5 bucks, the pdf is well worth the price. I think there are also a few grammatical and mechanical errors, but these are negligible. There could be more art, but the art you'll find is excellent.

I thought I would be the first to do a review on this little gem of a roleplaying game. For the longest time I have been trying to make my own along the lines of what this game does. So first and foremost i really love the system introduced in here. It has your classic d20 skill resolution system. Abilities and Skills rank from 1 to 10, and beyond. With 5 , I would say is a high average, while a 4 would be a low average.

I am still reading this book, but I've gotten pretty far. The health and stamina damage system, seems well designed as well. And keeps the tone of the setting, very gritty , so you don't have a ton of these points. Damage is based on a weapon value, plus the difference you beat the targets defense by. So a well rolled attack, really brings home the impact of how severe things can get.

The spell system is well thought out and designed (and relatively easy), and is just absolutely wonderful in its application. Everything feels more down to earth, than your typical D&D game, which is something I love. Broken up into 6 schools of effects, which only a few dozen spells which have multiple applications. And the fact you only need 1 book, makes this even better. If you do like D&D or d20 styled games, you should give this a try.
