The Sourcebook of Cyber-Religious Reality for the Torg Roleplaying Game

by Jim Bambra

The Cyber Catechism

  • What is cyberware? Cyberware is the body of our Lord incarnate. To possess cyberware is to share in the body of our Lord. Cyberware is the power of our God.
  • Where does cyberware come from? Cyberware comes from our God and has been imparted to his servant upon Earth, Cyberpope Jean Malraux I.
  • Why do we use cyberware? So that we can overcome the power of Satan and strengthen our wills.
  • What are the powers of cyberware? Cyberware is the power of our Lord; it knows no bounds.

The Possibility Wars rage across Earth in the Near Now, creating new realities that change portions of the world into someplace else. Now they have created the Cyberpapacy, a realm unexpected by even its own High Lord.

The Cyberpapacy Sourcebook is part of Torg, an epic game of adventure, power and altered reality. This volume describes the cyber-religious reality of Jean Malraux I, the realm of cyber-enhanced street warriors, Jazuits, and the GodNet. It features source material on Cyber-France and its effects on Core Earth. Included is gamemaster material on religion and miracles, the organization of the False Papacy of Avignon, loads of cyberware and lethal equipment, world laws, characters and creatures, and more.

The Inquistion is back ... but now it has nanosecond response time.

Original printing: 1991. Requires the Torg: Roleplaying the Possibility Wars Starter Set (WEG 20501), available directly from West End Games. More information about Torg: Roleplaying the Possibility Wars can be found at the West End Games Web site.

One of the most vehemently anti-Catholic pieces of literature seconded only by Reformation-era propaganda. Plays up every negative stereotype of the Holy See (greedy priests, sexually promiscuous nuns, lay people all being backward sheep), creating a paper-thin ''''analogy'''' to the real-life Roman Catholic Church that at times doesn't even try to separate the two.

The Cyberpapacy is essentially the Devil, all the while West End Games makes sure to mock everything from Mother Mary to Saint Peter, to praying, to the very concept of faith in general (Catholic characters are frequently depicted as making impulsive signs of the Cross and murmuring prayers like yokel idiots). The vast majority of Catholics are presented in the book as mindless quislings. They go along with Cyberpapal evil, with West End Games at sometimes not even providing a clear distinction between ACTUAL ROMAN CATHOLICS and their childishly evil counterparts.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
