Seasons of the Runewild: The Marriage at Midsummer

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Two star-crossed lovers have gone missing. Their families are at each other’s throats. After some investigation, the PCs learn that teenagers plan to elope to the fey-infested Runewild, where a mysterious figure called the Bishop promises to unite any couple.

But the Bishop has other plans.

The Marriage at Midsummer is an adventure for three to five 1st-level characters, designed to be played in a single session. You can use it to introduce the Runewild Campaign Setting (coming soon!) or drop the adventure into an existing campaign.

In addition to the story the adventure also contains:

  •     1 new monster: the prismatic centipede
  •     2 new magic items: the crook of the Bishop and hitching bands

Hello! I was wondering if there will be a PF2 conversion for this adventure? I have run and loved the other PF2 versions of these seasonal Runewild adventures and want to add this to my library.

Glad you like them!

Yes, we will release a PF2 version. We're spacing them out every few months though, so it will probably be in May or June. If you are signed up to get emails from us through DriveThru, keep an eye out. We'll announce the release and include a discount for previous customers.

/Beware, possible spoilers/

Reading this adventure, I was wondering about the "divide and conquer" solution that is suggested.

All the inhabitants of Midsummer Court goals align, except for Nanny (and hers aren't even opposed, she just doesn't care much). She is supposed to be a "wild card", but why ? Her current arrangement with the Bishop seems satisfying enough, she has no reason to go against him (especially since, for the PCs, "a direct assault against the Bishop and his minions is likely to fail").

So how are the PCs supposed to do that ?

Hi Jean-Antoine,

I'll let the author know about your question too, but here are some of my thoughts.

I think she is fickle and can be easily swayed. Mechanically PCs just need to make a Deceptions vs. Insight, so if the the PCs can come up with a good lie and make a good role, let it work.

One of the themes for the Runewild is that the fey don't think the way mortals do, so what seems logical to us might not make sense to them (why does she want to bake anybody in a pie?)

Nanny's happy with her arrangement with the Bishop, but she isn't loyal to him. If the PCs were to, for example, promise her the Bishop's crook after his defeat, her greed might overcome her good sense. Nanny can help the party outside of combat too (by distracting the Bishop, sharing her potions, and so on).

There's isn't one "right answer" to the scenario, but there are a lot of tools lying around which creative players can use to sow discord at the wedding. Alcoholic punch, vials of poison, sleeping powder, the magical wedding rings, the roast boar stuffed with live stirges, etc.

Hope that helps. Thanks for reading! - Bill Fischer (author)

Thanks ! It does help a lot ! I just would've liked for that to be written in the adventure. All we know about her motivations is that she likes to cook and eat people. A scene where the Bishop uses the crook to mute an unruly satyr, and where the PCs spot a glint of envy in Nanny's eyes would have hinted at a way to negotiate with her.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
