EZD6 Book of Quests

Excellent addition to the EZD6 rpg system! For those reviewers who said that this game is only good for one shots, this book shows how to do an EZD6 campaign. These adventures are fast moving and exciting! I can't wait to see what the next EZD6 volume will be.

Great simple to play rpg! Easy to learn, and modify if you wish. I appreciate how quickly you can read the entire book and just start playing. No need to study hundreds of pages in three different textbooks like in other rpg systems. To tell the truth, I quit 5e long before the ogl debacle. I just wanna throw dice and see what happens next in the story. EZD6 is a fast and fun alternative to D&D. Thanks for an amazing game, DM Scotty!

EZD6 Book of Quests

After playing 2 sessions with his Quests I can say I like DM Scotty's EZD6 a whole lot. It is now my 'go to' for anytime friends want to try an RPG. It's too early to say if i love it, but it's very good, the dice mechanics are familiar and simple. The player agency of earning and spending karma is simply genius. However, like Warhammer 40k if you keep rolling 1s you're f---ed, as you only get 1 reroll. It can be refreshed but at great cost you might not live that long. Mosters are abstract enough you could do any old DnD module pretty much, just fudge the 'strikes' and 'to-hit', add a couple special powers and that's it. But wait no stats ??Anyone who wants to make this game more complex with their own additions can but I 100% agree with Scotty that some things are missing for a very good reason so hold your horses until you play it. That said, hacks and mods are easy enough to add, for example, to get more re-rolls if you choose to take a bane or worse, a PBtA vibe of 'partial success' if you roll exactly the number needed to succeed rather than above it, or even armor 'wear and tear' and broken swords. I can also see how this translates to other genres, you just need a few different 'hero paths' and aspects. Great job!

So as far as the Quests themselves I also think it is borderline genius the way they are laid out, 1 or 2 maps, a list of the important characters, and the suggested path(s) to the end/boss. Also d20 'clues' which I never rolled for I just pick the one that makes most sense for the story. Yes, hell yes. I think this is such a superior format to 'old school modules'. That said this book will put your DM/GM/RR skills to the test as if the players veer of course you will need to improvise quickly because there isn't else much to go on. You will want to EZD6 quests this with Lazy DM's Guide and get a sense of how to (and not to) prepare. For those who don't want moral dilemmas skip a few adventures. If the 'big bad' of what is obviously his table's campaign over the years isn't your jam you can substitute something else easily.

EZD6 Book of Quests
by Andre L. R. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/02/2023 20:33:17

I've long felt that most game products (especially adventures) are over-written. Nice to leisurely read, but a pain to flip through at the table.

The Book of Quests (along with EZD6 core) is a departure from this and a breath of fresh air. Written in a straight-forward style that's both minimalist yet descriptive enough, it ensures that key information can easily be found at-a-glance without slowing down play, or improvised by the GM (Rabble Rouser in this system).

Beyond that, the quests in here are all designed to either be run independently, or weave together to lead towards an epic world-shattering showdown.

This is a format that I wish would become more common.

Kudos to DM(RR) Scotty on another successful entry into his product line.

EZD6 Core Rulebook

I recently ran a one-shot (hopefully turning into an ongoing)--everything went exactly as advertised. Was able to fit in about twice the encounters as a usual DnD session. Gamed with two newbies, and was able to explain the rules within the first 10-15 minutes of the session. They took to the system like fish to water.

I suspect that the reviewer below's issues were specific to their group itself. Otherwise, this has become my go-to RPG. Easily (and addictively) hackable with smooth play.

The power of the EZD6 system is in its simplicity, and the Book of Quests builds on that power with a tiered system of adventure prompts that a GM confident with a bit of improvisation can bring directly to the table after simply reading over the adventure. There are 18 quests separated into 3 tiers which the adventurers can be thought of as Local Heroes, Heroes of the Realm, and then Legendary Heroes. An hour or two of preparation is enough to make these quests really sing. These adventures also work as seeds of inspiration for your own ideas if you want to integrate them into an ongoing campaign, a homebrew world, or even to run in a different game system.

The writing is very concise and imbued with DM Scotty's wild imagination. The layout is clean and free of unnecessary flourishes while also feeling plush. The artwork is strange and evocative. The maps are unobtrusive, simple, and extremely usable. Like the core rule book, this book is an achievement in usability.

I bought the premium hardcover; which is journal sized, roughly 6x9 inches. The quality is typical DTRPG hardcover quality. It is good quality and focused on practical usability. The binding is stiff and requires some gentle breaking in before opening the book all the way up. It would be nice to have an integrated ribbon or two for bookmarks, but that is just a nitpick.

If you are into simple, streamlined RPGs that you can quickly bring to your table or a convention, there is no better system than EZD6. The Book of Quests is an incredibly useful addition to this toolkit that will enhance your experience as an EZD6 GM.

Finally got the game to the table for a test run. The group had done some ICRPG, another rules-light game, not long ago, so I thought this would be an easy pick-up game… Nope. The dice system is light, and can quickly get you through a basic combat or task check, but what about everything else? The concept here seems to be: you will need to adjudicate the details. And for seasoned RPGers, there will be details. For a system that prides itself on quick resolution via minimal rule look-up, I think it neglects to acknowledge that players will either try to find a rule that isn’t there, or will want to discuss the merits of a new rule/mechanic to handle that particular situation. Either way, not quick. For example, before starting the adventure, I reviewed with them the Wealth rule. It is abstracted into levels. No coins. You are a certain ‘level’ of wealth. And wealth advancement/loss is arbitrary, based on narrative - which, again, is adjudicated. Having something so abstract that affects so many other aspects of the game was obviously going to throw up some red flags. There went our first 15 minutes. And with no resolution - primarily because we decided it was going to be a one-shot and thus it was mostly irrelevant. The same issues were prevalent with magical effects. And combat tactics. And on and on. I shouldn’t have given the players the rulebook. If your players don’t ask too many questions, or don’t think outside of the 2-dimensional d6-box that these rules put them in, this game may play as fast and smoothly as it claims. But our first session went slower than a game of 5e with all the stopping, hammering out details and new core concepts, and having multiple discussions of “can I”. I think it would have been much easier if I just told them it was a board game. All-in-all, I would not put this in the category of a rules-light system, but rather an incomplete game concept with some assembly required.

EZD6 Book of Quests

I have tried to run a few game with different systems and always found the adventure books to be very overly complicated, which as a result felt like it made it a struggle to get my players hooked.

I am now 3 missions into the Book of Quests and loving it, but better yet my players are loving it, singing my praises and begging for more games. I spend 10-15 minutes reading each mission once before hand and then ran each game with the PDF open as a reference. No hours of prepping, no struggling to find notes or references, but each adventure still resulted in hours of fun for all of us. Scales well, with a variety of different size parties. Dishes out appropriate loot and rewards at great timing. And has a fantastic sense of a building threat and drama.

This isn't just a simple adventure guide. This is the new benchmark for how all adventures for all systems need to be.

If your goal is a fast, incredibly entertaining, simple to understand system this would be my favorite system of all time.

This is the game that brough my rule-wearied spouse back to playing RPG's with the rest of my family, and it has been so fun. I highly recommend this book, and especially recommend getting it in print.

If you want to have fast, frantic fun buy this book! I may be the most novice TtRPG'r on this site having only been a character in 3-4 d&d sessions before getting DM Scottys EZD6 rulebook. Now we host a monthly sessions with multiple pushers and shovers that are exploring our world of Windfell and this supplimental books is great! We have been able to plug and play a few of these "quests" into our ever growing landscape. Great product really helps with the GM's confidence level and streamlines some of our sessions. Well worth it! 5-Star cheers
